What to do when your computer keeps shuting down from overheating?

My computer keeps shutting down because of overheating. I took the the cover off and cleaned everything and the fan is working so I can't understand whats going on. Any ideas on whats up?

Before you spend any money....You can download Speedfan from this link to make sure it is actually your system overheating...It has a monitor. Install it and run and it will show you the temps and if it is overheating. I haven't found a motherboard it doesn't work with yet. It is free.

Fresh thermal paste on your processor (should be less than $5) from a local repair shop is a good place to start. Be careful regarding static and just put a tiny bit (about the size of a dime maximum).

Second option is upgraded heatsink/fan combo. Should be less than $20. Again, you can get this at your local repair shop. If you aren't sure what kind, take your computer in and they will show you what to buy.

If you have any questions about it, you are welcome to e-mail me.
Reply:my good man. If you put some fresh thermal paste dont put a dime size. All you need is a uncooked rice size. Or a BB. You dont want to put to much. Less is more. If you put to much your heatsink wil stick to the cpu. Then you will never be able to use it. Learn from my mistake. God luck. Its your cpu.
Reply:Get a cheap box fan - like you sit in the window of a house, and blow that on it. If it still shuts down, it's not from heat.
Reply:turn down your clock speeds or better yet, get better cooling. duh... :) vamp
Reply:you might need to get another heatsink/cpu fan and or another cpu
