How can I reboot my computer to its original factory settings?

My computer is a Windows Millenium, but I dont have the recover Disk. I've tried everything is there another way to reboot the whole thing.

How can I reboot my computer to its original factory settings?
I would advise you to get one, or preferably ALL of the following CD's. Download and write them to CD.

These are called "liveCD's". If you put one in, you can boot your computer to the operating system on CD.

You can browse, and copy files from your Windows ME (the worst windows) and you can copy them to CD, or flashdrive.

I would then advise you to install one of the other systems.

I use Ubuntu now, I find the desktop is nicer, and easier to use than any windows version I used before. I have Windows Vista on my computer, I keep that so that I can play windows games sometimes, but only for that.

Ubuntu has extremely good security, and it is free. Nobody laughs when I tell them I use ubuntu, but most people admit that it is pretty silly to stick with Windows unless you have a very good reason (for work or something).

Shrek 3 was made by Dreamworks using linux, and the desktops now are very nice - Ubuntu has a very friendly, and very big forum. I get answers to any questions there, but occasionally on here too.

If you can't manage to make the disc yoruself, write down the top link, and ask someone else to do it for you - in an internetshop, or anywhere else. You'll never regret it.
Reply:If you have the Windows ME disk you can reformat, but make sure you have all your drivers. If you do not have the Windows ME disk then I suppose you can try System Restore. Although system restore isn't the greatest since normally things like virus' trojans adware or malware will copy themselves there first.

Good luck though, :p
Reply:System restore won't help much.... for factory settings, the only way to get it back to how it was the day you bought it is to use your reinstallation cd that came with your computer.... you'll need the product key off the comuter case (its a multicoloured microsoft label with a 25 digit product key) then simply insert the disk in your cd drive and restart your computer. it should say in the top left corner, "press any key to boot from cd" hit a key, and it will ask if you want to install, or repair, choose install. it will show you a small box with the "partitions" on your drive. you will have to delete the existing partition, (follow the on screen instructions) and create a new one. then it will ask you to format the drive, you can choose quick format, or format. quick format works fine for me, but thats your call. then just let it go. it will ask you for your 25 digit product at some point during the install. different versions ask at different times. once it is complete, you will have to activate your copy of windows.... also your computer should have come with a driver cd, only install these if your computers not detecting things like ethernet, usb disk drives, things like that. if you don't have a disk, you can always download drivers off the web for free. the only other option to restore your computer is to restart your computer and when your Acer screen first appears you might have the option "system recovery" or something along the lines of that, where u can press maybe f10 or whatever it says. most store bought computers have a recovery partition on the hard drive so reinstalling the OS is much easier, no disks, no product keys, just follow the instructions.... the whole process takes about an hour from start till finish.
Reply:Did u try system restore? or contact microsoft to get a recovery disk.
Reply:possible a system restore.. go start%26gt;accessories%26gt;system tools%26gt; then system recovery and recover to the farthest possible date back. and no theres really not anyway to go back to factory default
