What is a good computer to purchase for the following uses?

I use Microsoft Word pretty often, and use Kodak easy share frequently. Other than that I check my email or do research on the web, and I like to download music. That is really all I use it for. I want to find a relatively cheap computer that will work well for these things (mine is old and bogged down). Any advice? Thanks.

What is a good computer to purchase for the following uses?
Laptop or Desktop?

The most demanding thing on your computer is the operating system, Vista home Premium. You may want a larger hard drive for your music / picture files.

New Desktop Computer Checklist:

Vista home premium (do not get Vista Basic)

Dual processor (any)

1-2 GB RAM (2 GB much better) with 2 memory slots free

DVD/ CD burner with dual layer DVD capability

Integrated Audio OK

Integrated Video OK but make sure it has a PCI Express X16 slot to allow upgrading video later.

200 GB hard drive or larger for your music/ picture files

10/100 Ethernet port (pretty much standard)

Dimension E521 $699

Reply:I would recommend the Acer Power FH. It's not expensive and will work great for what you described as your primary uses. You can get ahold of one from Newegg by following the link below.

If your going to do any gaming or video editing, I would recommend an Intel Core 2 Duo based system, which I've also linked to below.

I wouldn't recommend getting a Windows Vista system yet, it was just released and not all software and hardware are compatible with it. Plus, TomsHardware.com tested Vista and it actually has a 3D performance drop compared to XP, which will most likely be corrected sometime in the future.
Reply:I'd recommend at least a 500 Mhz Celeron. Any faster than that, and you're wasting your money, for what you'll be using it for. Any of these will be many times faster than you need, but they'll work: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLis...
Reply:for ur simpla operations u can buy any branded pc with win xp.
