How do I hide my computer files from other people who use my computer?

Other people are using my computer and its occured to me that they could see all my files and make changes to my files and computer. How can I set it so they can use the computer without seeing or changing these files?

How do I hide my computer files from other people who use my computer?
you could set up your own log in with a password. go to control panel and then go to user accounts
Reply:Set up a user account with a password. Only allow yourself administrator rights - and no one else. Also you can password protect induvidual documents in applications like word.

You can also go into file/properties and select view then check the hide box to make them hidden files.

Depends how useful the other users are - if they are determined, I'm sure they'll find a way of finding them.

Why dont you get an external hard drive or memory stick and keep your private stuff on there?
Reply:in xp open up my computer click on the c: drive click on the documents and settings folder you'll see a folder with your user name right click on it click properties click the sharing tab and put a tick in the box marked make this folder private and click apply then no one but you will be able to access your folders including your my documents don't forget to password your account in the control panel under users
Reply:Okay, right click. Then go to new, then from there, press compressed folder. Then drag all of your files in there. When you're done dragging all of them, click on the folder, go to file, then add a password. Good luck =)
Reply:i tried finding a program where i could password protect just one folder, but couldn't find one, but you have a few options:

1. password protect each file

2. create a guest account.

or this is the easiest way:

download a free program called my lockbox
Reply:You could do the PW sign on with a new user, but that is a litle open sometimes; better to go to Ctl Panel, View and click on Do Not show Hidden folders and hide them. Or use PW control on the folders themselves.
Reply:Click control panel%26gt;user accounts%26gt;change an account%26gt;change my password/create new password (that is if you don't have a password already)

It will ask you if you want to make your files and folders private there are two options yes make private or no

click yes make private
Reply:Dived your hard drive and then encrypt your files , the password on windows is too easy to by pass , lots of free software out there to do as i suggest
