How do I set my computer to be able to open a jpg file?

The microsoft photo editor opens but says "unknown file format". Previously, I am able to open this kind of file but I am surprised that I am not able to open it now. Can anyone advise me on how to set my computer to open this file? I have a microsoft photo editor and an HP photosmart essential installed in my PC.

How do I set my computer to be able to open a jpg file?
right click a jpg file and go to properties. then click the "change" button and select a previewing program. usually it's windows picutre and fax veiwer
Reply:Right Click that file u want to open , select open with

and then Select Windows Picture and Fax viewer

Below that there will be an option

"Always use this program to open this type of file"

tick that check box

thats it
Reply:Reinstall photo editor.
Reply:If I tell you I'd have to kill you

( or you could go with quite good answers above )
