How do I get my computer to automatically start up in the morning?

Does my computer have to be hibernate mode, standby mode? Does it matter? Could it even be off? How do I go about doing this? I am running Windows XP Media Center Edition.

How do I get my computer to automatically start up in the morning?
You could have a power timer on for your computer...

Just set it to the time you want your computer to turn on and it activates it.
Reply:you can use electronics timer circuit which will be connected with you power button via relay switch,

then just set the time, you can get ready your computer in morning.

On most desktop computer, they have power options with power clock %26amp; timer on the motherboard. You can get access to the motherboard's BIOS*.

Once you turn on the PC's power, press DELETE or F2 or F10 key on the keyboard to get the motherboard configuration screen, you may note there is a messege like 'Press DEL key to enter SETUP' prompt to you shortly on the screen. Notes that this instruction will be vary from each PC/Motherboard manufacturer. Refer to your PC/PC's motherboard manual for further information, if you can.

Look through the screen options for power management setting, use keyboard to select the correct menu option and press ENTER to get next screen, you should able to find detailed options like 'alarm' or 'wake-up' time/clock settings. Adjust them and you're done. Don't forget to save the setting before you leave the motherboard BIOS setup screen, you may press F10 key at any screen to quickly save these settings too.

Don't turn off your computer's power supply after you shutdown the computer's operating system. Otherwise the power timer cannot turn the computer on at the morning hour you've set.

It's sorry that the above-mentioned procedure is not applicable to mobile computers/laptops/notebooks as a measure to save more battery power and user safety policy (e.g. prevent the machine accidentally power on itself at a unwanted time).

Putting your PC into hibernate mode can save your works' session but you can't simply make it power on at early morning, except you're using these given above steps.

You can also use the system suspend mode: S3 power saving level as an alternative option. This setting also available at motherboard's BIOS setup screen. Of course you didn't leave your work session, and you cannot unplug your computer's power. In S3 power saving level, although PC is seemed to be power off, there is still a bit of electricity current flow to the PC's memory to keep your works. Unplug your PC's power, you lose all your work.

Power timer can turn the computer on at the morning hour you've set when you're using S3 power saving level settings.

Standby mode or S1 power saving level don't 100% turn the PC's current down to a very low power state, you can find that the PC is still on.

Mobile computers/laptops/notebooks use S3 power saving level feature but no any power timer is available.
Reply:Easier just to leave it on but shut the monitor %26amp; speakers off at night.
Reply:You can configure your CMOS. If you are not familiar with this, contact a friend who knows how to configure the CMOS. Anyway, you can do it. it is in the power mangement, I think.

Windows does not this in their program. What they have is automatic shutdown and standby but does not have automatic on.
