How do I transfer information from my Windows 98 computer to my new computer with Windows Vista?

My daughter got a new laptop for Christmas. She has been using an older computer that has been using the Windows 98 operating system. She wants to move all of her music and document files from the older Windows 98 computer to her new laptop with Windows Vista. Does anyone know how she can do that?

How do I transfer information from my Windows 98 computer to my new computer with Windows Vista?
Settings and Files Transfer Wizard, which is on the XP or Vista product CD, may indeed do the job.

If that does not work well, try CA (Computer Associates) Desktop DNA Migrator. It takes time, but it will fully migrate almost everything, including email setup, from an older OS (W98) to XP or Vista. It comes with a network cross-over cable (no router required) and runs around $40. Sometimes it comes in a bundle with CA Antivirus with mail-in rebates.
Reply:look for the files and settings transfer wizard, this should walk you through the whole process including making any disk you need as well.

Alternately plug the two machines into a network, share the drive on Windows 98 (very easily done on 98) and you will be able to see all the files from the Vista machine and can copy them.
Reply:wow, windows 98! If the 98 computer has a USB port, try getting a 4GB flash drive, that should get all of that done. If it's really that old, see if it has ethernet networking. That is the fastest way. If still no USB or ethernet, use email.
