My boss uses the computer I work with to look for girls on the Internet during off hours. Sometimes he goes to these nasty websites and leaves the computer all messed up with pop ups and viruses. He then blames me for downloading music which I don't do. He then makes a mess on my desk with his pipe. I feel he has no respect for me because he leaves all the print outs on my desk and all over the office. I use the internet which I'm not allowed to really. It's only for work. but common everyone does it. When boss is not in you check your email or check your bank and credit card accounts or pay bills. But that's all I do. I hate it when he goes to those nasty websites especially when the computer gets corrupted. Then he ask me to fix it. I say I can't so he has to pay someone more than $300 to do it, then he feels it in his pocket and hopefully he'll stop. But he doesn't. Can you tell me how to make him stop. Put a password or something?
What would you do if your boss uses the computer you work on to look for girls on the Internet?
Depending on your organization size and structure this shouldn't be a possibility. If you work in a company which has an IT department then see if the IT guys won't install some kind of software that will prevent damage to the computer. Microsoft Shared Computer Toolkit does a good job and is free. But it isn't for the timid.
But the feeling I am getting from your question is that this is a small company privately owned by your boss. In that case. The only thing you can do is possibly put a password on your computer and make sure you have your antivirus up to date and a good set of backups of your data if necessary.
Personally I feel that this guy is fairly inconsiderate for a boss and that you should be looking for other employment. But I understand that isn't always an option either.
A password would keep him from getting access to the comptuer at all but if he is the owner... well that won't last and will just ensense him against you.
In the end, unless there are systems in place to prevent this sort of thing at your office then you are stuck with the problem. But if you belong to a larger office with different departments then you should have passwords and policies about these types of things.
Reply:yes I would change my password , and be sure when he tries to used your computer again that somebody is around.
Reply:doesn't your boss have his own computer? Are you forced to share it? If not, lock it down by changing the password.
You should have a talk with your boss that you find it offensive that he smokes in your office and visits inappropriate sites on your computer. There is a log of the visits so you can prove it wasn't you. Demand that he stop.
If your company has an HR department then make a formal report. It is a form of sexual harassment so they will have to take it very seriously.
Reply:ouch.thats a toughy.id say quit or yes put up a password.tell him to get a computer so he can do that stuff on his own time.btw, i love ur name.its one of my favorites.
Reply:Buy him a hooker and tell him to leave your computer alone.
Reply:Ummmm, I love porn freaks ! Go to a porn magizine store--buy 2-3 magazines of young boys having sex--send to his neighbor's address with his name on it--use manila envelope--DO NOT GLUE---just use metal clips to keep it closed---send some to his department head if he has one. Wait. Or order magizines, videos, send them to his address, charge to his name, borrow his credit card # to pay for them. Send a subscritpion to all his friends. etc. I KNOW ITS DISGUSTING ! But do it anyway.
Reply:password protect your computer but being the boss he might be able to get it..but who knows..
Reply:Tell his boss.
Reply:Report it to human resources.
start keeping records of when you are on-line- and when you leave work. DETAILED records.
see if you can find a pattern - like maybe the boss always does this after you leave on Tuesday afternoons. Ask someone from HR to drop in at that time without warning so you can get someone in authority to verify your experience.
I think you could make a good case to HR that leaving nasty pictures on your computer is a form of sexual harassment.
Depending on how much your boss knows about computers you could change the security preferences on the computer, lock the mouse up, or even disconnect the computer from the net/modem/phone lines and lock the cable in your desk.
Reply:Sounds like you work for a small firm? If so, there is nothing you can really do. If you work for a big corporation, Report him to HR. Or to his boss. You could put a password on it but id it's the only one there you could get in trouble.
Reply:Talk to HR. He's making it hard for you to work (and making you uncomfortable), so you should report him.
Reply:I agree with the person before me. You need to lock your computer with a personal password. If you are not afraid, maybe you can go to the person higher than him and file a complaint.
Reply:Lock it down with a password
Reply:Your boss is a disgusting pig and I'm sorry that you have to put up with this. If I was you I would look for a new job. Don't quit until you find a better job and then report him or tell him he's a pig!
Reply:I would go to his boss if he had one or contact the IT people and tell them you suspect some one is using your computer to look at unappropriated sites on your computer.
Reply:Report him!! Otherwise someone will eventually think its you going to those sites.
Reply:I would report it to his boss. The IT department will have event logs which will confirm anything he may be doing.
