You can find some laptops with 2GB RAM, Intel Core 2 Duo, dedicated video, and lots of hard drive space. Either get this or a mac.
Reply:If you want a Desktop with lightning speed. Then you have to get a Quad-core processor because it will handle video editing very well. The only way to use all four cores is to use Vista. I would go for Vista 64bit Ultimate. That way you can install up to 128GB of ram. For normal consumers, the most you can put in a regular motherboard is 8-16GB which is plenty. I recommend getting a minimum of 4GB.

Forget XP because its dead and can't use all 4 cores.
Reply:dual core cpu, 2 gb of ram, and a decent graphics card should do it.
Reply:I would say a mac is what you need. Graphics and Audio editing is best done in it. However if you want to stick to x86 platform you have to consider more RAM (more than 2 GB) and a very powerful 1GB video card and a good sound card as well etc. That should do it. You also need high capacity SMPS for such devices.
Reply:The Quad core Core 2 Duo is a good choice for rendering images.

You also will need a set of disk drives of the SATA 3.0 variety and setup in a RAID "0" configuration, to facilitate moving mass ammounts of data.

Don't waste a lot of money on expensive RAM. The newer processor architectures don't benefit much from using the high dollar stuff. Get some good DDR 2 800 and spend the money you save on a better processor, you'll get a lot more for your dollar. Three gig of ram if using a 32 bit OS, four gig if OS is 64 bit.

.

Stick with Windows XP software and use the 64 bit version if your S 10 can use it.

.

Graphics card can be minimal unless you are wanting to game.

Here's a couple of articles that may help you get an idea of what you need.
