What is the usual price range of getting a computer wiped?

Our computer has been extremely slow. We know that it's not our internet connection (as that is pretty fast when my sister's laptop is hooked up too it), so we are 95% sure that if we get the hardrive wiped it should be back up to speed. The system we're using is Windows XP on a Dell computer. It's an older computer. What I would like to know is how much do you think it'd be to get it wiped and then to have the main programs put back onto it? Any suggestions for who should do it? Thank you.

Dell usually comes with a recovery cd/dvd/disk. Find that, pop it in the drive and turn your laptop on and follow the prompt. If you don't have the disk, then you'll have to buy a windows installation CD for about 200$ or you can get yourself a free OS like ubuntu and install that yourself.

Don't forget to backup your files!

Oh, and if you want to have someone else do it, it'll cost you around $300 or so, I would imagine, including the OS.
Reply:the people are right i usally chrge about 150 for a wipeot and reinstall ,u could do it yourself but i understandif u don't feel comfortable i once used to think reformating was rocket science too ,if u still need someone to do it though just send me a message, www.gspeedcs.com ,hope u find a soltion whether u do it yourself or not
Reply:Umm Let me think........Aha Just reformat the Dard Drive
Reply:It's not quite that simple but yes, you could do it yourself.

Following a few simple instructions, it's quite easy to do.

If you feel it's something you don't want to try, or you might mess it up, then take it to a shop. Ask friends who they've taken theirs to and what the service is like.

Trust me, it's not rocket science, and I'd be glad to email you a guide on how to do it.............

It's a simple case of booting from the cd, formatting the drive and re-installing windows, you do need some interaction with the setup, like setting language, time, date location and entering you licence key. You also need to activate windows once its all done. I'd suggest locating all driver cd's especially your modem to get back on the net. Any antivirus software and firewall product disks too. Once it's complete and connected to the net get any windows updates available.

Taking it to a shop they can charge around £30 an hour for this service. hope this helps
Reply:um, free. just install the windows cd and reinstall windows xp. done.
Reply:Yeah, free. Just back up your system to an external hard drive or to cds and dvds and then use the XP install cd which came with the computer to do a clean install. Then, restore all your data.
Reply:format the drive, or reinstall the OS
